My Second Movie - Rajneeti

First of all, a very happy birthday to Shahid Kapoor - my favorite Indian actor (as will be come apparent, soon).

Rajneeti may or may not have been the second movie I watched, but it's second on the list I've been generating so I will just go with it.

Rajneeti is a fairly serious drama about political corruption in India. Ranbir Kapoor stars as the son of a very powerful political family who returns to India to visit his family. On the day he is supposed to return to the United States, his father is assassinated. He vows revenge on the murderers and what ensues is a tangled and violent conflict. This was an interesting role for Ranbir as it allowed him to step outside the cute, boy-next-door roles that he's popular for and I was glad to see it. It also stars Ajay Devgan, who is in my top 10 list of Indian actors, but more on him later.

If you like political dramas, I highly recommend this one.

Inaugural Hindi Film - Bachna ae Haseeno

This was the first film I watched and the only reason I had it even on my radar was due to stumbling across it as a recommendation via Netflix. My friend and I watched the first opening video (for the title song - linked below) and had vowed to go back and watch it when it wasn't already 10:30 on a schoo...er...work night. Weeks go by and with that time comes the release of The Guild's new music video, Game On, with it's Bollywood-inspired theme. Also...Dragon*Con 2010 where I got to meet one Sandeep Parikh.

Okay - so...now I'm home and am fighting my way through the post-Dragon*Con blues. To distract myself, I decide to browse through what's available for streaming (via XBox 360) on Netflix and run across Bachna ae Haseeno. What the hell. I'll give it a try. And that's the beginning of a wonderful relationship that, as of now, is approximately six months old and with no ending in sight.

So - Bachna ae Haseeno. Obviously, I love this movie, although now having seen approximately 65 Hindi films, it's not my favorite, but still enjoyable. In a nutshell, Raj is a "killer" (lady killer) and the movie documents his exploits with three girls, two who were in love with him (Mahi and Radhika) and one for whom he was head over heels (Gayatri). Yep - this is a love story of the romantic comedy variety. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor as Raj, Minissha Lamba as Mahi, Bipasha Basu as Radikha and Deepika Padukone as Gayatri.

I just realized that I have a fabulous tool in this blog to keep track of the Hindi movies I've watched and to post mini-reviews of them. Fab!!

Once I remember how to post from an actual computer and not my phone, I will embark on this project.

Possibly even documenting my attempts to teach myself Hindi.
